About Us - Who Are We?

Whisky For Everyone was started in March 2008 by husband and wife team Matt Chambers and Karen Taylor.  They were both beginners in the world of whisky and despite finding some very good websites, they struggled to find one that seemed to explain things in basic beginners language.  Therefore, they decided to write such a site themselves.

The blog was joined by the Whisky For Everyone website in January 2009 and both have been growing ever since.  Matt and Karen are regulars on the London whisky scene and have readers from all around the world, despite both having full time jobs away from Whisky For Everyone.

________

Karen Taylor

Karen always thought she liked whisky but never really understood why. After falling in with the wrong crowd (see below) she starting tasting whisky with some very knowledgeable individuals and never looked back. She is intrigued by the 'human' aspect of whisky - the history and the people that work so hard to create what is in each bottle.

Karen has a background in online communications and marketing, which is also her day job. Her passion is to use the digital world to provide people with unbiased information, from helping when buying whisky to just letting everyone know what cool things the distilling industry does.  Karen has been selected on the judging panel for the Scotch Whisky Masters.

Karen was made a Keeper of the Quaich in April 2015.

Matt Chambers

Matt stumbled in to the world of whisky when he blagged a job in the world renowned Royal Mile Whiskies store in London.  He was bored of selling cameras, so decided on a total change of subject. He didn't know what he was getting in to or have imagined the impact the decision would have on his life.

Matt's interest lies in the geeky side of the whisky industry - the heritage behind the brands and distilleries.  He also enjoys the weird facts, figures and stories that bring the world of whisky to life.  In addition, Matt has hosted regular whisky tasting events, spoken at whisky festivals and written articles for various printed and online publications, including Huffington Post and Whisky Quarterly. He has also been a selected on the judging panels for the IWSC, The Spirits Business Masters and Spirit of Speyside awards.

Matt is now a freelancer spirits writer, consultant and presenter after leaving his day job in specialist whisky retail in early 2017. He works with a number of whisky companies and brands, including Brown-Forman and The Whisky Lounge, with a key interest in educating people about whisky.

Matt was made a Keeper of the Quaich in April 2015.

A small corrective on your terminology of "vatted whisky": In 2009 what was once termed either "vatted malt" or "pure malt" was relabeled "blended malt under the UK's Scotch Whisky Regulations 2009. This was further enforced by the repeal of the Scotch Whisky Act 1988 and the Scotch Whisky (Northern Ireland) Order 1988.

Details of the legal categorization of Scotch whiskies under the 2009 Regulations can be found at this page, on Scotch Whisky Association's website.

Kindest regards,

Should you not declare your interest as brand ambassador for Brown-Forman who own a number of the brands you review?
